So, you have found an animal you want to meet? Great! We have an adoption process that tries to ensure that our LLR animals have found the best match for them. Adopting from LLR isn’t the fastest process. We do not have a paid staff and rely on volunteers-for everything!

Volunteers are responsible for:

  • animal care

  • veterinary appointments

  • checking emails

  • answering phone calls

  • scheduling all meet n greets

  • medicating

  • training

  • walking

  • physical rehabilitation

Please be patient with us, animals come first around here! We are not in a rush to place any of the animals in LLR. All of our animals live in foster homes comfortably which means that we can take our time to find the best possible home for each animal in our care. Please know that the animals most up to date information (to include age and weight) are on their bios here on our website. Third party adoption websites may not have the most current information.

Application

This is how we get to know a bit about you, the potential adopter. Once we receive the application, a team of volunteers will review the application to see if it could be a great match for BOTH the adopter and the animal. The application fee has been a wonderful way to separate those who are serious about adopting and those who are still on the fence. Because volunteers review dozens of applications daily, this has made the pool of applications much more manageable. Application fees are a donation and are not a guarantee that your application will be approved. Not all applications are approved. If an application is approved, we can schedule a meet-n-greet with you, a volunteer, and a Little Lotus resident who is looking for a home. Please keep in mind that our organization is centered around the animal-this means that sometimes people get upset when they are not the best match for an animal they would like to adopt. While potential adopters read a bio and see a photo, volunteers have gotten to know these animals and have a pretty good idea of what environment they would thrive in. We do our absolute best to set the adopter AND pet up for success and match to the best of our ability.

Sometimes applications get declined, and that’s OK! This doesn’t mean you aren’t a good pet parent, it just means this animal wasn’t the best fit for you at this time! We do not release reasons for a declined application as this has led to applicants lying on their future applications and putting both humans and animals in bad positions. You have the option of allowing us to recommend a better fit on the application if you’re interested in that option.

Please ensure that the application is filled out by the potential adopter and all information submitted is the potential adopters. We understand that some people want to help with the process but this MUST be done by the person intending to adopt.

As an all volunteer organization, we do not make phone calls. All correspondence is kept in email in order to best organize information given and received by both LLR and potential adopters. We understand that there are a lot of scams out there. We recommend keeping an eye on our social media accounts for day to day rescue happenings and updates from current supporters and previous adopters.

Home Visit

Our home visits are a way for us to make sure that the home is a safe match for the animal. Sometimes these are in person-sometimes Zoom-and sometimes photos are sufficient!

Meet & Greet

Our meet-n-greets are a great way for everyone to ensure that the new home and new pet are a great match for each other. We really want to make ensure that both the pet and new family members will be happy in their lives together. Once you receive the “What to Expect during your Meet & Greet” email you will be scheduled to meet an animal within 7 days. For 7 days the animal can be held for an approved applicant. If an applicant requires more time to schedule a meet & greet, a boarding fee of $20 per day will be required to hold an animal. All meet & greets happen in Sierra Vista or Tucson unless scheduled otherwise. Meet & Greets do not mean that an adoption will happen. You will never be pressured into adopting an animal-this is a big decision!

Adoption

If all goes well at the meet & greet, you could be going home with your new family member. Once the contract is signed, the animals vaccine history and microchip will be uploaded to their petstablished account that you will have then have access to. We ask that the animals microchip be registered within 24hours.

Animals Being Returned

All animals must be returned to Little Lotus Rescue & Sanctuary if they cannot remain in their adoptive homes. Adoption fees are not refunded.

Out of State Adoptions

Animals can be adopted out of state. Potential adopters must do meet & greets in person. Animals must be driven home by the adopter or flown in cabin with the adopter. No other pet transportation is permitted.

Pools

We no longer adopt small dogs into homes with pools, fenced or unfenced. Large dog adoptions will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
